Las Vegas police officers kill unarmed man

This is a sad story. So after two Las Vegas police officers don't catch two attempted burglars, a man named Stanley Gibson pulls up to the condo complex, tried to leave when the officers approached him, the police then tried to get him out of his car, then one officer decides to fire seven rounds from his rifle into the car which kills Gibson. Gibson was unarmed. Why not use the beanbag gun or pepper spray like they planned? Read the whole story below (link below too).

Celestine Gibson, the mother of Stanley Gibson, is suing Metro, asking for at least $20 million. Gibson was killed on December 12, 2011 while sitting in his car. He was unarmed.

Police say they were called to the Alondra Condominium Complex to investigate a report that two men were trying to break in to a condo. When officers arrived, the suspects had apparently left the area. While officers were taking a report, Gibson pulled into the complex and parked. As police approached his vehicle, he started his car and tried to leave. Police pinned his car, keeping him from leaving the area, and tried to get him out of the vehicle.

Officers at the scene then came up with a plan to get Gibson out of the car. They decided to shoot out a car window with a beanbag gun and then deploy pepper spray inside the vehicle. When the officer fired the beanbag round, Officer Jesus Arevalo fired seven rounds from an AR-15 rifle into the car, striking Gibson and killing him.

The lawsuit alleges officers at the scene were negligent during their interaction with Gibson. The suit also alleges Metro's use of the AR-15 contributed to Gibson's death.

Due to legal wrangling's, a coroner's inquest into Gibson's death has not been conducted.

Family members say Gibson, a disabled war veteran, had just moved to a nearby apartment and was confused about his location. The lawsuit alleges Metro's Crisis Intervention Team, who are specifically trained to deal with mentally distressed people, were never called to the scene.
